• Solar Powered LED’s may not be so efficient but are very cheap

Solar cells, photovoltaic cells, LED’s or ultrathin lithium batteries on their own are quite resoursegul and have been well exploited all these years. But Fredrick Krebs has come up a combination of solar panels and LED lights with ultrathin lithium batteries that can give light to 1.5 billion people in the underdeveloped regions who do not have access to electricity. These plastic solar cells integrated with batteries and LEDs could replace kerosene lamps. They may not be the best of the solar technologies available, but they definitely are very cheap. Sadly, running at an efficiency level of just 1%, they still have work left to be done, I presume. However even this measly return does add value in the price-sensitive context of rural lighting.
